How the post production edits used helped create narrative, representations and connotations and complemented cinematography choices.

I will be talking about how the post production edits helped create narrative, representations and connotations and complimented cinematography choices.

We started off by adding the Adobe Premiere Pro transition 'dip to black', which is part of the dissolve transitions, at the beginning and end of our short film. At the beginning of our short film it fades from black to the video of the clock and then blurs into the next clip and at the end of our short film it does the opposite by going from blurry to clear and then the video of the clock fades to black. We did this so that it isn't a harsh start and finish. This links to Tzvetan Todorov's unconventional structure theory. This is because the film starts and ends with the clock which creates a circular narrative since it ends in the same place it started. This works well for our narrative since the therapy has happened before and will happen again so it mimics the continuity of the loop. We decided to do a close up shot of the clock at the start and the end of the short film to show our audience how much time passed during the interaction. 

We linked to Tzvetan Todorov's unconventional structure of narrative theory. We did this by adding flash forwards of the therapists office. We decided to tint them red since red links to fear and danger and our character is having anxiety and other negative reactions towards the office. To do this we went into the section 'lumetri colour' and changed the shadow and highlight tints to red and adjusted the tint balance until it looked as we wanted it to. We made the tint higher as the clips went on to connote the progression of our characters anxiety to the target audience. This links to Tzvetan Todorov's unconventional structure of narrative theory as the flash forwards aren't chronologically accurate. This could also link to Stuart Halls theory of preferred meaning since red meaning danger is a stereotype and people typically interpret it that way.

MERIT In our rushes for our short film we have limited number of characters which is a convention of a short film as it makes it easier for people to understand and keep up with since the story is compressed into a short amount of time. Another convention we include is the reveal where we reveal to the audience that our character has dissociative identity disorder. This keeps the film interesting for the audience and allows us to start the film with a slight air of mystery. LO4.1: Be able to record cinematic quality footage

Day 1   Day 2 Day 3 PASS These are some of our rushes from our 3 days of filming for our short film. For some of our shots we had been using natural lighting which is unreliable and changes due to time and weather so in order to try and keep some continuity in the lighting we used an on camera light which allowed us to change the light from warm to cold and adjust to brightness as well which allowed us to keep it as similar as possible. We changed the aperture to ensure that our shots weren't over exposed or too dark as to where you couldn't see properly the higher the f number the darker the shot and the lower the f number the brighter the shot. We generally used between f7-f14 while filming. When it came to frame rate we used 25 FPS for our film as it made our filming look the smoothest, especially in scenes when our actors were moving.
