LO5.2: Be able to edit cinematic quality footage

DISTINCTION How the post production edits used helped create narrative, representations and connotations and complemented cinematography choices. I will be talking about how the post production edits helped create narrative, representations and connotations and complimented cinematography choices. We started off by adding the Adobe Premiere Pro transition 'dip to black', which is part of the dissolve transitions, at the beginning and end of our short film. At the beginning of our short film it fades from black to the video of the clock and then blurs into the next clip and at the end of our short film it does the opposite by going from blurry to clear and then the video of the clock fades to black. We did this so that it isn't a harsh start and finish. This links to Tzvetan Todorov's unconventional structure theory. This is because the film starts and ends with the clock which creates a circular narrative since it ends in the same place it started. This wor...

OUR SHORT FILM Our Life Final Video PAS S We started off by adding the Adobe Premiere Pro transition 'dip to black', which is part of the dissolve transitions, at the beginning and end of our short film. At the beginning of our short film it fades from black to the video of the clock and then blurs into the next clip and at the end of our short film it does the opposite by going from blurry to clear and then the video of the clock fades to black. We did this so that it isn't a harsh start and finish. This links to Jason Mittells theory of genre being exploited my producers to create a more successful product that is recognisable to the genre. This is because it creates a distorted sense of reality which is a convention of a psychological film. We also edited the flash forward footage of the inside of the office to have a red tint. We did this since red links to fear and danger and our character is having anxiety and other negative reactions towards the offi...

LO4.3: Be able to record cinematic quality footage

DISTINCTION In this report I will be discussing how we created meaning using different production techniques within our rushes. This will include techniques such as mine-en-scene and camera/lighting settings. I will also discuss how this links to the genre of our short film through conventions.  Our short film is about how Connor, our main character, is going to a therapy session. The genre of this film is Psychological drama. We changed the ISO setting specifically when using the fisheye lens to make the lighting similar to that of other films in this genre to portray this to our audience. This links to Jason Mittell's genre theory which states that genres are exploited by producers so that their projects are financially successful. This is because a lot of psychological films are set in rooms which are somewhere neutral in between dark and light. This helps to make it not only successful but also recognisable to the genre. In our short film we use shot types s...

LO4.2: Be able to record cinematic quality footage

MERIT In our rushes for our short film we have limited number of characters which is a convention of a short film as it makes it easier for people to understand and keep up with since the story is compressed into a short amount of time. Another convention we include is the reveal where we reveal to the audience that our character has dissociative identity disorder. This keeps the film interesting for the audience and allows us to start the film with a slight air of mystery. Since it is a short film it would have a small budget if we were to make it professionally since the film is short, it won't take as much time or equipment to film as it would if it was a full length film meaning that the budget would be smaller. our film is targeted more toward a niche audience like many short films are since short films are generally focused on one specific topic rather than multiple more generic topics like the majority of full length films are which could be to do with the fact that they cos...

LO4.1: Be able to record cinematic quality footage

Day 1   Day 2 Day 3 PASS These are some of our rushes from our 3 days of filming for our short film. For some of our shots we had been using natural lighting which is unreliable and changes due to time and weather so in order to try and keep some continuity in the lighting we used an on camera light which allowed us to change the light from warm to cold and adjust to brightness as well which allowed us to keep it as similar as possible. We changed the aperture to ensure that our shots weren't over exposed or too dark as to where you couldn't see properly the higher the f number the darker the shot and the lower the f number the brighter the shot. We generally used between f7-f14 while filming. When it came to frame rate we used 25 FPS for our film as it made our filming look the smoothest, especially in scenes when our actors were moving. In our film we have a wide angle shot, to film this we used a fisheye lens. When we were using this lens, we had to change the ISO settings o...

LO3.1/2: Be able to plan the recording of a cinematic quality scene

LO3: Proposal PURPOSE The purpose of our film is not only to entertain our audience but also to inform them about DID ( Dissociative identity disorder).  DID is a mental health condition in which people have two or more separate identities. These personalities control their behavior at different times. Each identity has its own personal history, traits, likes and dislikes.  We intend to have our audience learn something about the condition whilst also being entertained by the content. By addressing this in our short film, many people will likely find it easier to take in the information since it will be presented visually and they will be able to see what is happening rather than just read about it. FORM AND GENRE The form of our audio-visual product that we are making is a 5-10 minute long informative and entertaining short film. The purpose of our short film is to entertain and inform people on what the mental illness DID is, with a dramatised therapy session. It will help t...
